What is RSS?

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication, and is used to describe the technology used in creating feeds. It is an alternative means of accessing the the most up-to-date information that exists on the web. Rather than searching through a site or waiting to receive a newsletter RSS technology allows you to receive this timely information via subscription or "feed".

How do I access RSS feeds?

Internet Explorer - you view feeds on the Feeds tab in the Favourites Centre. To view your feeds, click the Favourites Centre button, and then click Feeds.

Mozilla Firefox - you can view feeds by using the Bookmark tab. To view your feeds, click on the Bookmark tab and browse to the feed.

Other RSS enabled browser's follow a similar process.

Feed Reader - you can use a feed reader which can be found by searching for 'RSS feed reader' using Google or your preferred search engine.

How does a feed differ from a website?

A feed can have the same content as a webpage, but it's often formatted differently. When you subscribe, Internet Explorer automatically checks the website and downloads new content so you can see what is new since you last visited the feed.
